Noel Weismann started Endurance in the early 1990's and a life-long love for the sport was born. He started in his forties and while most sports would consider this a late-comer, not so Endurance. This sport embraces all - young and old, men and women, experienced and novice. Even non-riders are welcomed in the most crucial roles as strappers and volunteers. He was introduced by his then partner Kylie, and to this day, she remains one of his dearest friends.
His first ride saw him hopelessly lost in the forest at Kenilworth. It was late at night and with seemingly no other option, he cut through the bush to the vague lights of the showgrounds. Exhausted on arrival and not knowing any better, he unsaddled his horse and fell asleep. The next morning he awoke to Bob Sample pounding at the door -it seems Noel forgot to let anyone know of his arrival and they had spent the night searching the forest for him.
Two years on and son Tim decided he was tired of hearing out about Endurance and wanted to find out about it for himself. Noel had asked him along but Timmy told him
he didn't want to go and watch, he wanted to ride. After a few training rides, Noel purchased Tim's his first horse.
Together father and son have covered thousands of kilometres of Endurance trails across Australia, and still share their passion for horses. They have since passed this love on to their extended families.
After a few years of riding, Noel decided it was time to start breeding his own horses
and so it was that Hirstglen Arabians was born. One of his foundation mares,
Gwendalin Twiggy, was put to Arabian Lodge Boragh and in 1994 the first Hirstglen
foal was born - Bozrah. Bozrah achieved much success but was only the first of many Hirstglen horses to do so.
Weismann Endurance has since seen dozens of riders accomplish great success with Hirstglen horses, however Noel is sure the best is yet to come.
